Halfway Focus problem on Sony Cybershot DSC-H1 , DSC-H2, DSC-H5

by Grace 21. July 2010 04:23

The halfway focus problem is quite frequent on the Sony DSC-H1, Sony DSC- H2 and Sony DSC-H5.

Basically the feature that allowed you to halfway press the shutter button for an initial focus does not work anymore. Pressing the shutter button halfway no longer works. Many do report that going ahead with the picture generally produces a picture that is focused, however, that enjoyable feature is not working.

This happens when you are unable to get the focus preview by pressing the shutter button halfway.
The cause is due to the shutter button that is broken or the block control assembly (switch block control top).

This is the mechanism that allows you to pressure the shutter button to take a picture. This requires a part replacement.

To repair this issue the camera needs to be completely open, disassembled and the broken parts replaced.

While there are several workarounds posted on the internet we often receive cameras where some have attempted to fix this and ultimately have damaged other parts in the camera.

Lens will not retract, Lens does not come out, Lens is stuck, Lens is doing a grinding sound

by Grace 16. July 2010 06:05

4 Camera Lens problems with its contributing factors and

Digital Camera Battery Do's and Don'ts

Lens will not retract

Lens does not come out

Lens is stuck

Lens is doing a grinding sound

These problems in digital still cameras are caused by different reasons; Camera Lens Stuck

1. Dust inside barrels and between the gears of the lens
The barrels lens have small guides, any dust particle or even the fiber of the camera case, can be the cause of problems with the lens functionality, any particle obstructing the guides avoid the ability of the lens to come up or retract. In order to repair this issue, the lens is taken out of the camera, is carefully disassembled with the proper tools and expertise, cleaned and greased and assembled again returning its functionality.

2. Camera dropped or suffers an impact Camera Lens Will not retract

If the camera is dropped or suffers an impact, depending of the impact (strength, angle, position of the lens at time of impact) the barrels lens can be moved out of the guides. In this case, a full reassemble of the lens is done in order to place the lens parts in its place again. The use of appropriate tools can make this a successful job or not. Each piece is integral and must be assembled carefully to guarantee resolution.
However, if the impact is more severe, the guides or gears can be damaged or the barrels broken. In this case the replacement of the damaged part is needed.

3. Battery Related
The battery is the source of energy to the camera, while that seems obvious the care that is given to that battery greatly impacts how the camera performs and the full problem free functioning of the camera. Here are some of the battery related problem that greatly disrupt and affect the well functioning of your camera. Camera Lens stuck Camera Repaircamera lens stuck barrels

Battery Do's

  • Use batteries with full charge
  • Replace batteries with manufacturer suggested battery only
  • Clean contact points with soft clean dry cloth

    Battery Don'ts
  • Take the battery out with the camera still on
  • Take the battery out while turning the camera on
  • Use a battery that is run down or not fully charged

Batteries run the camera and power issues are to blame for damaged lens sensors. When this happens the sensors need replacement.

4. Camera Usage and Carecamera lens stuck

Constant use of the camera, depending on the camera life and care, are also reasons that cause lens malfunctions.  Constant use and movement affect the sensors flat power cables. Every time the lens is coming out or retracting, whether to take a picture or even when the camera is zooming in or out, or focus. Normal part of camera usage wear and tear.

0x5b Error Code in a DSLR Sony A100

by Peter 11. June 2010 09:51

0x5b Error Code in Digital Camera Sony DSLR-A100

The 0x5b error code indicates that the amount of light passing through the aperture lens is not being controlled by the F-Stop selected.

Camera Repair Error 0x5b
What is the aperture?
A camera collects light in order to deliver the image. The Aperture regulates how much light is being allowed into the lens.

A diaphragm is inside each lens and it is what controls the lens opening and closing to the size you have set it to, this is what is called the aperture setting. Size settings are referred to as f-stops such as f/2.8, f/5.6, f/11, etc.
The smaller the F-stop, the larger the aperture.

Camera specifications are clearly marked on any camera specifications and generally show as any of the following three ways:

  • F2.8 is considered Maximum aperture.
  • F2.8-F8.0 A stating the maximum and minimum aperture, and there are standard increments between these.
  • F2.8-3.5 or F2.8(W)-F3.5(T) Describing the maximum aperture for the wide-angle (F2.8) and telephoto (F3.5) focal lengths of a zoom lens.

Camera Repair Aperture Error
Remember, the smaller the F-stop, the larger the aperture.

This might be a bit more technical than you are used to, or you are enjoying this level of detail.

Either way, when the Error 0x5b presents itself it is communicating that the aperture is not doing its job, and the aperture lens is not being controlled by the F-stop selected.

The culprit?

A malfunctioning has occurred with the AV drive unit. These little pieces wreak havoc quickly in these great yet sensitive cameras.

How the 05xb Error Code comes up?

When you shoot a picture by holding the camera in the normal eye level position and pointing into what would be considered normal daylight. What happens is you press the button, the shutter closes very  slowly and the error code 0x5b is displayed. Nothing else can be done and you have to switch the camera off. Upon turning the camera on again, the camera goes through its self check and you get the OK. If you now attempt to shoot a picture into poor light, very dark shade or down to the ground - where you would expect a poor light reading, it will take the shot perfectly.

Now, raise the camera up to horizontal, try to take a picture and you get the error code and again it shuts down. It seems as if the system is being saturated with high light levels.
This shows how it is the AV drive unit which is not doing its job and controlling the aperture of the lens.

For this reason this error appears in bright environments if the AV drive unit is not working properly.
This is repairable and sometimes a cleaning service is enough other times the AV drive unit needs to be replaced.

Can it be fixed!? Absolutely! Sony Camera Repair
We have the expertise to evaluate and test your camera, pinpoint the problem and do the camera repair!

Error E:91:01 in Sony Cyber-Shot

by Peter 21. May 2010 16:26

Error E:91:01 in Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T300, Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W55

The Error E:91:01 is an error that is many times is described as; flash error E:91:01 , flash won’t work, flashing error on LCD, Sony Error Code

What is E:91:01?

When a problem occurs while the camera is operating, the self diagnosis function starts working. The display on the LCD screen is what is wrong with it in this case, and presents the Error E:91:01 code. Normally, this error can be repaired by a service center. Expert camera repair expertise, tools and timing are imperative in this repair.

This specific error E:91:01 means that the flash capacitors are not being charged properly, hence the camera is unable to fire.
When you send your camera to Teleplan for camera repair, we do a full diagnostics before coming to this conclusion. The flash unit needs to be thoroughly diagnosed to figure out what is wrong with it and why the capacitors are not being charged.

However, the camera allows you to take pictures and see them in the playback mode, but all of them without the flash working, and of course, the annoying E:91:01 will continue blinking on your screen.
Cameras where this error presents itself are mostly Sony. Here are some common models:

Distorted Images? Images do not apear, Might be the CCD

by Peter 9. May 2010 17:29

Images apear to be distorted – Images do not apear – Might be the CCD

What is the CCD ?
A Charge Coupled Device (CCD) is an integrated circuit etched onto a silicon surface forming light sensitive elements called pixels. Photons incident on this surface generate charge that can be read by electronics and turned into a digital copy of the light patterns falling on the device. CCDs come in a wide variety of sizes and types and are used in many applications from cell phone cameras to high-end scientific applications.

Canon PowerShot A95 with defective CCDImages Appear distorted Camera Repair CCD
The LCD has color, but just lines and smogs of color.....no forms!

Why does it fail ?
The CCD problems are the ones responsible for causing images to be distorted or to not appear at all. CCD (image sensor) failures, particularly in conditions of high heat and humidity, led to cameras capturing images with either no picture at all, or with extreme distortion and severe purple or green color casts. Many times this is due to the internal wiring that may come undone in some areas of the CCD when the camera is under high temperature or high humidity environments.

What does the problem look like?

The problem can appear in several forms, yet all involve severe color shifts and/or severe distortions of the image. Below are two examples of what the problem might look like, if your camera displays this problem. In the beginning of the problem, the camera may still capture recognizable images, but with a washed-out appearance and a strong magenta(reddish pink) or green tint.

Teleplan Camera Repair Contest is a Great Success!

We have received great entries for the Teleplan Camera Repair Contest on Photography Review which continues to show us the colorful personalities of camera lovers!

Cameras and the funny things that happen with and around them really do bring people of many nations closer!

Teleplan Camera Repair Contest on Photography Review has received so many entries it was very hard choosing some to share here.

To register in the contest you are required to submit a short camera story. The stories we are receiving are quite funny, odd and at times moving too! Camera people have a way of recognizing each other and that is what allows us to ask total strangers to take a picture of us anywhere in the world, whether you speak the language or not! Just point to that little button they are supposed to press and voila! The most interesting part of this encounter is that when they hand you the camera back, most people generally stick around to see if the picture was ok, and if you want another one! (say cheese!)

Did you already enter the contest?

Enjoy some of the entries that most certainly camera lovers like you will relate to:

Aha moments –
“Took forever to figure out why the camera took terrible pictures inside.  I had my finger partially over the flash every time I took a picture.  Figured out the right way to hold the camerCamera Repaira and the pictures drasically improved.  Amazing what a little light will do for a picture.”

L.S. Arizona - Kodak Z760

Cameras bringing people closer -
“I was visiting NC from Idaho, we were at some waterfall/ hiking area. I stopped and asked a gentleman to take a picture of me and my brothers’ family. When he was done we stayecamera repaird and talked for a minute. Turns out he was originally from our area in Idaho and....his last name was the same as ours! Turns out he was a cousin to my husbands’ grandpa! Crazy! What are the odds! All thanks to my camera!”
C.S. Wyoming – Olympus C5500

Cameras adding to our lives - camer repair
“I love my camera. It takes great pictures, though they can be a little blurry and out of focus. It's kind of hard to keep my hand steady, but it's worth it. My best pictures have been of scenery, especially of the mountains where I live. My camera really makes my day.”
L.H. Colorado - Casio Exilim

We look forward to announcing the contest winner! All entries must be submitted by May 20, 2010.

Camera Missing Buttons - Camera Broken Door

by Administrator 21. April 2010 18:33

Camera Missing Buttons? Camera Broken Door?

While these things might seem like little nuisances at first, they are actually opening a door to additional problems in your camera!

Common Digital Camera Problems that lead to bigger problems

Digital camera missing button

How did that fall out? Where did it end up? Generally you don’t know how that button fell off, rarely can you find the button and often times when the button is found you can’t seem to get it to fit back in correctly. It just keeps falling out or doesn’t fit quite right. Camera Repair
Some of us creative ones end up applying a piece of tape over it hoping it will stay in place. Others try to force it or help fit it in with a key or some other non-technical, not recommended, tool.

The downside of just leaving that button off and continue to use it by pressing the area with your nail or other, is that you are breaking the protection barrier that is there, and that barrier is an internal layer. All of these layers were designed to keep dust, oils, sand, humidity, and all other little things that work themselves into any nook in your camera, out of it! The accumulation of these set off other problems in your camera and pretty soon we are talking about several problems instead of a camera missing button.

This little button you are missing has a function more important that you would think, get it repaired.

Camera Battery Broken Door and Camera Memory Card Broken Door

The design of these camera battery doors and memory card doors, often seem complicated and hard to deal with. It’s hard to place the battery in and those tiny images that are supposed to indicate which direction the battery goes in doesn’t always cut it! Inserting the battery in an incorrect manner is often the cause for several other things including; broken pins, broken pins that push into the main board, or the more simple ones, the camera just doesn’t turn on. The reason why those doors are so tight are to give it a good contact and provide the camera with the steady intermittent energy that it needs to allow you to use all those great features.

In this case, using a piece of tape or other creative approach starts messing with that contact and your camera starts acting up even further. Imagine plugging your computer into an outlet and having people constantly tugging at the wire, eventually bad things happen and could damage your motherboard. Same case here.

camera repair

Maintenance of your camera is what will guarantee that it will last longer and most important of all that it produces excellent quality pictures!

Start taking pictures again, get your camera working again!.
Teleplan Camera Repair can fix this issue quickly, we get spare parts directly from major camera manufacturers including;
Canon, Sony, Kodak, Nikon, Olympus, and more.  Fast turnaround time, guaranteed workmanship.

Lens error, restart camera, Error on Canon DSC cameras

by Grace 8. April 2010 17:16

Lens error, restart camera,  Error on Canon DSC cameras

Lens error, restart camera is a very common failure and error on Canon DSC Cameras. Camera repair

Surprisingly, the simplest things are what cause it.

Usually, it is sand or dust interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Another reason is if the camera has been dropped with the lens extended. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended.

Believe it or not, camera cases are BIG contributors to lens errors. The accumulation of sand, gunk, case fibers, and other materials rolling around the bottom of the case are materials thin enough to make their way into the camera lens. These materials love to cling to the camera by electrostatic build-up from the camera rubbing against the side of the case (especially those cases with soft fibrous interiors). Once these materials work their way into the lens mechanism problems start to occur.

As cameras are put together with very tight fittings and sensitive materials disassembling the camera takes expert handling and special tools in order to not cause further damage.

At Teleplan Camera Repair your camera will be serviced properly, the lens needs to be cleaned, greased and reassembled in order to repair it. If the failure was caused by impact the broken parts need to be replaced.
