Should I fix my camera or buy a new one?

by Administrator 29. December 2009 12:31

A couple of common question we hear are , "is it better to recycle my camera instead of fixing it?" and "how much should I spend on a repair before it makes more sense to get a new camera?" both are great questions and they both have a lot to do with the quality of your broken camera and the cost to replace it vs. the cost to repair it. Then there is the intangibles like emotional attachment to your camera and the anxiety of learning how to use a new camera. (yes people still fear change even when it makes sense).

As a rule, since we are biased, we try not to answer these question but we try to lead our customers to an answer that is best for them.

1- if the budget is tight, the repair is almost always the money saver of the two.
2 -If you don't care about the newest gizmo's and bells and whistles then it wise to fix the old camera
3-If your camera is expensive it is always wise to fix it vs. buying a new one.
4-If you love your camera and can't bare the thought of learning a new camera system then it is wise to repair your camera instead of buying a new one.

Camera Repairs are what we do, we love to take them apart and put them back together, but if you decide you want to buy a new camera instead of fixing the old one then please send us your old camera so we can recycle it. No use polluting the local landfill with camera batteries and other things that have an 2,000 year half life.

Fix your water damaged Camera

by Administrator 10. December 2009 06:17

Can camera water damage be repaired

When camera water damage happens, acting quickly is the best step!  In digital camera water repair, consider first of all, there are two types of water damage; Fresh water and Salt Water.  Fresh water damage is not as severe as salt water damage and is very obvious to the service technician as to what kind of liquid has contaminated the circuit board assembly.  Once we have determined the type of damage, we need to determine if the device was in the off or on position when the damage occurred, the mode of the device determines the severity of the damage.  An energized electronic circuit board experiencing a short circuit by water or any other conductive liquid will show physical damage, i.e., burnt components, curled or damaged traces, discoloration of CBA, etc.  This type of damage merits replacement of complete circuit board.   A de-energized circuit board exposed to conductive liquid will have a higher instance of intermittent failure and as water evaporates it leaves salt crystals. These salts crystallize out onto the board and then cause short circuits when the circuit board is eventually energized. In either case, the circuit board is cleaned, damaged components replaced, reflowed then given an operation check, at this stage the technician determines if the camera is ready for a stress test, further troubleshooting and repair or complete circuit board replacement is required.
