0x5b Error Code in a DSLR Sony A100

by Peter 11. June 2010 09:51

0x5b Error Code in Digital Camera Sony DSLR-A100

The 0x5b error code indicates that the amount of light passing through the aperture lens is not being controlled by the F-Stop selected.

Camera Repair Error 0x5b
What is the aperture?
A camera collects light in order to deliver the image. The Aperture regulates how much light is being allowed into the lens.

A diaphragm is inside each lens and it is what controls the lens opening and closing to the size you have set it to, this is what is called the aperture setting. Size settings are referred to as f-stops such as f/2.8, f/5.6, f/11, etc.
The smaller the F-stop, the larger the aperture.

Camera specifications are clearly marked on any camera specifications and generally show as any of the following three ways:

  • F2.8 is considered Maximum aperture.
  • F2.8-F8.0 A stating the maximum and minimum aperture, and there are standard increments between these.
  • F2.8-3.5 or F2.8(W)-F3.5(T) Describing the maximum aperture for the wide-angle (F2.8) and telephoto (F3.5) focal lengths of a zoom lens.

Camera Repair Aperture Error
Remember, the smaller the F-stop, the larger the aperture.

This might be a bit more technical than you are used to, or you are enjoying this level of detail.

Either way, when the Error 0x5b presents itself it is communicating that the aperture is not doing its job, and the aperture lens is not being controlled by the F-stop selected.

The culprit?

A malfunctioning has occurred with the AV drive unit. These little pieces wreak havoc quickly in these great yet sensitive cameras.

How the 05xb Error Code comes up?

When you shoot a picture by holding the camera in the normal eye level position and pointing into what would be considered normal daylight. What happens is you press the button, the shutter closes very  slowly and the error code 0x5b is displayed. Nothing else can be done and you have to switch the camera off. Upon turning the camera on again, the camera goes through its self check and you get the OK. If you now attempt to shoot a picture into poor light, very dark shade or down to the ground - where you would expect a poor light reading, it will take the shot perfectly.

Now, raise the camera up to horizontal, try to take a picture and you get the error code and again it shuts down. It seems as if the system is being saturated with high light levels.
This shows how it is the AV drive unit which is not doing its job and controlling the aperture of the lens.

For this reason this error appears in bright environments if the AV drive unit is not working properly.
This is repairable and sometimes a cleaning service is enough other times the AV drive unit needs to be replaced.

by Peter 21. May 2010 16:26

Error E:91:01 in Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T300, Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W55

The Error E:91:01 is an error that is many times is described as; flash error E:91:01 , flash won’t work, flashing error on LCD, Sony Error Code

What is E:91:01?

When a problem occurs while the camera is operating, the self diagnosis function starts working. The display on the LCD screen is what is wrong with it in this case, and presents the Error E:91:01 code. Normally, this error can be repaired by a service center. Expert camera repair expertise, tools and timing are imperative in this repair.

This specific error E:91:01 means that the flash capacitors are not being charged properly, hence the camera is unable to fire.
When you send your camera to Teleplan for camera repair, we do a full diagnostics before coming to this conclusion. The flash unit needs to be thoroughly diagnosed to figure out what is wrong with it and why the capacitors are not being charged.

Sony Cyber-shot Turn the power off and on again Error

by Administrator 23. March 2010 14:55

The turn the power off and on again error appears in Sony Cyber-shot DSC Digital Cameras. Sony Cyber-shot Camera Repair

Most Camera Repair situations are related with a lens issue, the lens can be stuck or can damage to the sensor lens.
It is very common that this error starts appearing if the camera was dropped; it could be intermittent or permanent.

If you can quickly shut it off and power on again, and it is working, it is fine.
The problem persisting shows that something is going on inside the camera.

Once the camera is disassembled, it becomes evident if the problem is adjustment, cleaning or requires actual parts to be replaced.

Many amateur attempts to fix the Sony Cyber-shot DSC result in causing damage and breakage of further pieces. The assembly is quite tight and does not allow for parts to be easily moved.
An attempt to disassemble without the technical expertise and tools often ends up in additional parts being broken, or “left over” parts when trying to re-assemble.

Sony’s Affordable a380 DSLR with Lens

by Chris 26. January 2010 10:55

Only in the last couple of years have amateur photographers had the ability to purchase DSLRs for a reasonable sum of money. With 14.2 megapixels, a 2.7 LCD display, quick auto focus, SteadyShot INSIDE™ image stabilization and an 18-55mm zoom lens, the A380 is great option for those new to shooting with a DSLR. Not only is this camera easy to use, but it also contains a pop out and adjustable LCD screen which is great for capturing images at awkward angles. Another plus is the fact that in January of 2006 Sony acquired Minolta, the Japanese company known for introducing the world to the first integrated autofocus 35mm in a SLR camera. Although the lens that comes with the A380 is not Minolta, Sony has had time to improve and implement some of Minolta’s features into this camera which only benefits the photographer. Since released about 6 months ago, the price of this camera has become much more affordable. For about $700 you get both the camera body and the 35mm lens. So, for those looking for an alternative to Canon and Nikon’s DSLRs, look no further. For well under a grand, you can get a straightforward, high-performance camera that really packs a punch.
